Readers recommend: call-and-response songs
This article is more than 12 years oldWe're calling on you to tell us about the best call-and-response tracks. We'll respond by compiling a playlistLet me hear you say whoo-o-oah! Hee-e-ey!
Whoa! Hey! Whoah! Hey!
Whoa Hey Whoa Hey Whoa Hey Whoa Hey …
The use of call-and-response is a feature of gospel music and unsurprisingly has African roots. It's an effective way of engaging an audience, creating excitement and is a staple of the rock stadium singalong. Even musicians who've never even smelt a stadium hotdog stand have employed call-and-response.
So we're calling on you to tell us about the best tracks (of any genre) that feature call-and-response by leaving a comment below. We'll respond by compiling a playlist that selects our favourites of your choices, which we'll publish on Thursday 26 January.
The toolbox:
* Listen to others' suggestions and add yours to a collaborative Spotify playlist
* Guide to "donds", "zedded", and other strange words used by some of the RR regulars (courtesy of the Marconium)
* The Marconium (blog containing a wealth of data on RR, including the songs that are "zedded")
* The 'Spill (blog for the RR community)
Please do:
* Post your nominations before midday on Tuesday if you wish them to be considered.
* Write a few lines advocating the merits of your choices.
But please don't:
* Post more than one third of the lyrics of any song.
* Dump lists of nominations. If you must post more than two or three at once, please attempt to justify your choices
