A house fire on Long Island in the early hours of Wednesday morning left two young sisters from Maryland dead. Jillian and Lindsay Wiener, 21 and 19, were fast asleep at around 3:30 a.m. in the family's vacation home in Noyack Bay on Long Island when it caught fire.  Lewis Wiener, the girls' 60-year-old father, a senior partner with the global law firm Eversheds Sutherland and a beloved member and leader of the family's synagogue, was awoken by the sound of broken glass and immediately attempted to evacuate his family.

As many Americans have shifted away from organized religion in recent years, mystical thinking has not evaporated, but simply taken on new forms. Popularized in the U.S. in the 1960s and 70s, and influenced by earlier spiritual and religious movements from around the world, the new-age movement includes ideas that are embedded in the belief systems of many Americans. A YouGov poll in August finds that nearly all Americans hold at least one belief associated with the new-age movement, or have engaged in practices associated with it.

It has been a success story for Syfy, drawing rave reviews and bucking the trend for horror movies being adapted into TV shows.

JENNIFER Lawrence has described the horror of having naked pictures stolen and leaked online as "like being gang-banged by the f***ing planet". The Oscar winner had intimate pictures hacked from her iCloud account and posted on forum site 4chan in 2014. Hacker Edward Majerczyk, 29, was jailed for nine months earlier this year after admitting accessing more than 300 people's accounts in connection with the case. Lawrence said the privacy invasion left her confidence shattered and in tears when people described her as a good role model.
